I may have reached my breaking point. As if trying to graduate from a school for supernaturals isn’t stressful enough, my relationship status has gone from complicated to a straight-up dumpster fire.

Oh, and the Bloodletter has decided to drop a bomb of epic proportions on us all…

Then again, when has anything at Katmere Academy not been intense?

And the hits just keep coming. Jaxon’s turned colder than an Alaskan winter. The Circle is splintered over my upcoming coronation. As if things couldn’t get worse, now there’s an arrest warrant for Hudson’s and my supposed crimes—which apparently means a lifetime prison sentence with a deadly unbreakable curse.

Choices will have to be made…and I fear not everyone will survive.

Copy of Separators

In one to two sentences, tell readers what COVET is about?

Covet is the third book in the Crave vampire series, and it follows the adventures of Grace and the rest of her paranormal crew as they try to do two things that don’t always go together—graduate high school and save the world.

What was the inspiration behind the CRAVE series?

The inspiration behind the Crave series came from me wanting to write about a girl who was a total outsider to the world that she lives in. I remember feeling like I didn’t fit in in high school, and so many of my female friends have said they felt the same way during their teen years for any number of reasons–being too tall or too short, not being pretty enough, being too smart or not feeling smart enough, having big breasts or not having big enough breasts, having curly hair or having too straight of hair … any number of things that we can’t and shouldn’t want to change. I took that feeling and amplified it for my main character, Grace, who has just lost her parents in a tragic car accident (which is alienating enough), but then added to it by transplanting her to a boarding school in Alaska filled with paranormal creatures she doesn’t understand and didn’t even know existed before she got to Katmere Academy. Grace really is a stranger in a strange land, and despite that, she comes into her power anyway. She saves herself. And, on a different note, I also really, really wanted to write a kick butt vampire book.

Do you have any writing quirks or superstitions when it comes to writing?

I don’t have any superstitions about writing, I don’t think. But I do have a quirk—or at least a routine that I do. A few years ago, my life was falling apart and I was having a terrible time writing. So a friend of mine told me to start a routine every day before sitting down to write—something that I only do when I’m going to write, so it would train my brain that it was time to work. Which is why, whenever I sit down to do some serious writing, I put my hair up in a Pebbles Flintstone type ponytail on the top of my head and do a quick little writing dance. It’s always the same dance—my time to write dance—and it is the thing that tells my mind it’s time to work J

When it comes to authors, who inspires you?

So many that it’s hard to name them all. Nalini Singh, Toni Morrison, Jandy Nelson, JD Salinger, JR Ward, Edgar Allan Poe, Christina Lauren, Emily Dickinson, Maya Angelou … the list goes on and on.

Favorite childhood book?

From young childhood—Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire and Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Dr. Seuss.

Older childhood—Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and Ramona Quimby by Beverly Cleary.

Tween years—Sweet Valley High series and The Velvet Promise

Teen years—The Catcher in the Rye, Anthem, anything written by Nora Roberts or Judith McNaught

Favorite all-time book you will read again and again?

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger

What is the take-away message you want readers to know about COVET?

I hope readers will find their own strength in my stories. I have a myriad of different characters in the Crave series, all flawed but all strong in their own way, and I hope readers recognize their own power and beauty as they watch my characters struggle through both mundane and extraordinary circumstances.
